Elektor, one of the world most famous electronics magazines, publishes a comparison of several amplifier modules in the September'07 issue, one of them being Coldamp BP4078 400W Class-D amplifier.

Coldamp is proud to announce the release of its newer product, a 800W (nominal) switching power supply with 12V input, specially designed to high power audio amplifiers in places where there is no available mains voltage, such as vehicles, portable installations, etc. With a form factor very similar to our AC/DC SPS80 PSU, it provides a nominal +/-60V output (with two jumper-selectable ranges and fine adjust potentiometer) as well as a +/-12V aux output with 250mA capability. The mains features of this product are:
- Fully protected input (undervoltage protection, overcurrent shutdown, fuses)
- Heavy duty screw input terminals
- Regulated, symmetric output with adjustable voltage (+/-60V nominal), two ranges plus fine adjust (isolated)
- 800W+ power capability
- +/-12V 250mA aux. output (isolated)
- REMOTE input for external on/off using a switch or head unit control wire.
- High input/output capacitance for better bass response
This product has been fully tested and it is in final production phase. The release date is November, 1st, 2007.

After the success of our amplifiers and switching power supplies, Coldamp is preparing several new products in order to have the most complete possible portfolio by the end of 2007. All of them, with the reference sound quality and rudgedness of BP4078 and our SPS series of switching power supplies.

750W Class-D amplifier: For customers demanding even higher power, we have developed a full-range Class-D amplifier capable of more than 750W on 4 or 2 ohm loads, with supply rails up to +/-90V and internal housekeeping switching PSU, that allows an idle consumption of less than 6W (lower than a BP4078), without requiring additional voltages, for cleanest connection (designed to be used with SPS80HV PSU). Size is only 105x80x38mm and has great assembly flexibility due to its flat base. Admits input plug-in boards.

Plug-in input boards: this is a new concept we will be introducing in all our new amplifiers. It consists of a small 5-pin interface conprising +/-6V supplies, audio input and audio output, for small (max 20x30mm), low-cost PCBs where we will implement different functions such as low-pass / high-pass filters, digital volume controls, etc. This interface will be open so everybody can contribute his own plug-in board.
For example, if one wants to create a bi-amp system, you only need two amplifiers, one for bass and another for mid-highs. Each one will be fitterd with a plug-in board, corresponding to a low-pass and high-pass filter, respectively.

SMPS + Stereo amplifier combo: Includes a AC/DC Switching power supply + 2 amplifier channels, with a power capability of 2 x 300W, stereo or bridgeable (600W/4 or 8 ohm), including protections, output for LED indicators and input plug-in board socket. This module eases the implementation of amplifiers, as cabling is greatly reduced. Size is only 200x115x40mm and price will be lower than a PA/Active Subwoofer pack.

2x500W Stereo amplifier: Based on BP4078 amplifier, with supplies up to +/-72V, this small module (only 115x115x38mm) includes 2 full-range channels with 500W capability each, easily configured as stereo or bridge (1000W/ 4 or 8ohm). Includes all the features of BP4078 plus input plug-in board socked in each channel. Its price will also be smaller than 2 x BP4078 amplifiers.
