Opposing to conventional PSUs, based on heavy toroid amplifiers, Switching Power Supplies operate at a much higher frequency, what allows a drastic size and weight reduction. Traditionally, audio applications haven't used this technology but now it is possible to get all its advantages together with a superb sound quality.
However, the Coldamp family of Switching PSUs have been specifically developed for audio applications from the start, with sound quality on mind above all. As a result, our modules are not simple switchers designed for low cost and size, but they have massive amounts of capacitance for deep bass response, fully regulated output for excellent voltage stability even under the most power demanding applications and several onboard filters for very low EMI and rails noise.
Using this technology, it is possible to build a high power amplifier with small size and light weight while still exceeding the sound quality obtaining with linear power supplies.
